Rave Generator 2 VST/AU :
how to make it work in Mac OS X 10.15 (Catalina)
“Help !!! My super funky cool RaveGenerator 2 plugin isn’t working anymore in Catalina !”
“Damn ! New Mac OS Catalina broke my favorite VST/AudioUnit for RAVE sounds”
“I wish i had never upgraded ! ”
“The end of the earth is upon us. Pretty soon it’ll all turn to dust ! SO GET UP”
Forget the past and follow these steps :
1) Download a x64 only build of RaveGenerator2:
-> Rave Generator2 VST for Mac <-
-> Rave Generator 2 AU for Mac <-
Choose the AU if you have Logic X, Ableton or any AudioUnit compatible DAW/Host, or the VST or both if you are a Rave Generator 2 hardcore fan.
You may have to “authorize” the download (it’s just a “ok” button to press)
2) Extract/Copy the archive somewhere (on the Desktop is a good place !)
I tried to copy directly from the download folder to the plugin folder but it didn’t work…
So place the RaveGenerator2 plugin file on your desktop and then copy/paste this file to /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST (or Components).
Be sure to replace the old one if there any (the best is to delete the old, then paste the new one)
3) Open the Terminal and do the MAGIC workaround !!!
in the Terminal type :
sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/RaveGenerator2.vst
and if you want to devérole the AU, type:
sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/RaveGenerator2.component
You don’t have to disable the infamous GateKeeper, just start your DAW and do a plugin rescan if there was a previous version of the RaveGenerator 2 that was blacklisted.
edit : for the AudioUnit, a reboot may be necessary !
Now RaveGenerator 2 is compatible with Mac OS X Catalina !
Hi there,
I am a fan of rave generator and have been using it for a year now. I recently switched to new macbook with catalina 10.15.7 and Logic Pro.10.6, and unfortunately after downloading and following your instructions, my ravegenrator is not showing up in plugin section of Logic.
I did steb by step this procedure but it is not working for me
Can you help me ?
regards
Bruno
“I did steb by step this procedure but it is not working for me”
Logic may need a reboot rescan
Is auval saying something useful ?
Works for me !!! Thank you so much
can you help me as i think im most likely doing it wrong with the vstspeek
that’s the same procedure, just change the name of the file when typing the command :
sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/VSTSpeek3-x64.vst
or
sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/AUSpeek3.component
Thank you !!!
i managed to make Rave Generator 2 plugin appear in my DAW
Hi,
I have followed the instructions to try and get Ableton Live to detect it but when I copy the command into the terminal, it says there is “no such file” in the VST folder (even though Rave Generator is in there). Please help.
Thanks,
Theo
what happens if you type in the terminal:
ls /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST
?
It is showing all my plug ins except the Rave Generator. It also says this at the beginning of the reply from the terminal:
The default interactive shell is now zsh.
To update your account to use zsh, please run `chsh -s /bin/zsh`.

“It is showing all my plug ins except the Rave Generator.”
It means the file is not here, you have to copy the RaveGenerator2.vst file to this path : /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST
Ok so it is in the right VST folder, although when I relaunch my DAW it says “this device can not be opened because it is made by an unidentified developer”. I went on my security settings and clicked on “open anyway” so that it can run but it opens an app called Max 8 and still does not get detected/accepted. Is there anything that I am missing for this to work?
Now that the file is present in the right folder you type :
sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/RaveGenerator2.vst
Hey Wavosaur
Is Max 8 installed along with RaveGenerator? Is it needed for it to run, or can it be deleted?
I don’t know this Max 8 ! You can safely delete it.
Just did, it has come up with this:
xattr: No such file: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/RaveGenerator2.vst
The name of the rave generator is correct the location is correct but it has not been found yet. really dont know what it is wrong with this. I have researched what might be wrong for 2 hours and nothing can tell me what the issue is. Apologies for this hassle
Exactly same thing for me Theo 🙁
I have followed all instructions in comments to get Rave generator 2 on Ableton but nothing… No Plugin in Ableton
For you and anyone else reading this:
I believe the problem some are experiencing can be that they install the plugins in the user library vs the system library. Place the .vst file in the correct plugins folder (i used my user library folder) and drag the file from there to the terminal, for the right path, which you can use instead of the one mentioned in the example.
Another thing I did, was to double-click the .vst plugin file (after placing it in the Plug-Ins/VST folder) – which prompted me to accept that the file was “opened”.
After that, it works fine for me.
=)
yes, you can easily confuse ~/Library/…. with /Library/….
Hello,
Is there any location where you can access the samples of this synth? Couldn’t find.
I love this synth but i make music on hardware and would like to install just the samples in my digitakt. 😀
Cheers
If you’re on a Mac, you can right-click the .vst file and choose Show Package Contents. In there, you’ll find at least 88 wav files. I don’t know where the remaining are. Perhaps part of the executable file itself. But it’s a start:)
